New treatment for prostate cancer gives 'perfect results' for nine in ten men: research

A new treatment for prostate cancer can rid the disease from nine in ten men without debilitating side effects, a study has found, leading to new hope for tens of thousands of men.

It is hoped the new treatment, which involves heating only the tumours with a highly focused ultrasound, will mean men can be treated without an overnight stay in hospital and avoiding the distressing side effects associated with current therapies.
A study has found that focal HIFU, high-intensity focused ultrasound, provides the 'perfect' outcome of no major side effects and free of cancer 12 months after treatment, in nine out of ten cases.
Traditional surgery or radiotherapy can only provide the perfect outcome in half of cases currently.
Experts have said the results are 'very encouraging' and were a 'paradigm' shift in treatment of the disease.
It is hoped that large scale trials can now begin so the treatment could be offered routinely on the NHS within five years.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence will say in new guidance next week that the treatment is safe and effective and larger scale trials should go ahead.
A larger trial is already recruiting patients and men interested in the treatment should speak to their cancer doctor or GP about being referrred, experts said.
Prostate cancer is the commonest cancer in men with more than 37,000 diagnoses each year approximately 10,000 deaths.
Current treatments include surgery to remove the whole prostate or radiotherapy. Both of which can effectively treat the cancer but often cause side effects such as incontinence and impotence.
However in many men prostate cancer will not progress to a life threatening disease meaning that radical treatment risks side effects unnecessarily. For this reason, research is now focused on reducing side effects.
Focal HIFU involves careful selection of tumours, as small as a grain of rice, within the prostate gland and targeting them with highly focused ultrasound to heat them and destroy them.
The advantage over previous HIFU and other treatments is that damage to surrounding tissue is minimised, meaning there are far fewer side effects.
In the study published in the journal Lancet Oncology, 41 men were treated with focal HIFU. After 12 months, none were incontinent and one in ten suffered impotence.
The majority, 95 per cent, were free of cancer after 12 months.
Dr Hashim Ahmed, who led the study at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust andUniversity College London, said: “This changes the paradigm. By focusing just on the areas of cancer we reduce the collateral damage to surrounding tissue.
"Our results are very encouraging. We’re optimistic that men diagnosed with prostate cancer may soon be able to undergo a day case surgical procedure, which can be safely repeated once or twice, to treat their condition with very few side-effects. That could mean a significant improvement in their quality of life.
“This study provides the proof-of-concept we need to develop a much larger trial to look at whether focal therapy is as effective as the current standard treatment in protecting the health of the men treated for prostate cancer in the medium and long term.”
He said after Nice guidance is issued next week, he expected other doctors to consider using the treatment.
He said: "These results will encourage more physicians to look at it more carefully.
"If men are interested in this concept they should speak to their cancer doctror or their GP.
"The next step is a large scale randomised controlled trial. This needs to be evaluated in a timly way so men can benefit."
The research programme is led by Professor Mark Emberton, of UCL and UCLH. He said: “Focal therapy offers harm reduction – it is a strategy that attempts to redress the balance of harms and benefits by offering men who place high utility on genito-urinary function an alternative to standard care.
"In fact, the concept is not new - tissue preserving strategies have been used successfully in all other solid organ cancers such as breast cancer by offering women a lumpectomy rather than mastectomy.”
Professor Gillies McKenna, director of the Medical Research Council and Cancer Research UK Gray Institute for Radiation Oncology and Biology, said: "Clinical trials, like this one supported by the MRC, are a fantastic tool for telling us whether experimental new treatments are likely to be effective in the clinic.
"If these promising results can be confirmed in a randomised controlled trial, focal therapy could soon become a reasonable treatment choice for prostate cancer alongside other proven effective therapies.”
The research was funded by the MRC, the Pelican Cancer Foundation and St Peter’s Trust.
Jacqui Graves, Interim Head of Healthcare at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We welcome any research that shows early signs of improving the outcomes of treatment for prostate cancer patients.
"Significant reduction in the likelihood of common side effects, such as incontinence, will enable men to recover better and go on to lead good quality lives. We hope that a larger trial will be supported to ensure that the UK achieves the best outcomes for men affected by prostate cancer.”
Owen Sharp, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity said: “We welcome the development of any prostate cancer treatment which limits the possibility of damaging side effects such as incontinence and impotence. These early results certainly indicate that focal HIFU has the potential to achieve this in the future.
“However, we need to remember that this treatment was given to fewer than 50 men, without follow up over a sustained period of time. We look forward to the results of further trials, which we hope will provide a clearer idea of whether this treatment can control cancer in the long term whilst ridding men of the fear that treating their cancer might mean losing their quality of life.”

That does not mean again of course that I agree with anti-Jews,

PETMAN: A Giant Step Taken Toward Building DARPA's Robot Army

Activist Post

As part of DARPA's Robotics Challenge, which seeks more lifelike humanoid robots, the engineers at Boston Dynamics have impressed once again.  Boston Dynamics first caught the public's attention by showcasing just how fast robotics was advancing when they released videos of robots so lifelike that they were given names like LittleDog, SandFlea, BigDog, and the world's fastest legged robot -- Cheetah.

Now Boston Dynamics has entered the human realm with PETMAN.  As you will see in the video below, this robot far outdoes its predecessors with its extraordinary range of motion and abilities.

PETMAN is an anthropomorphic robot designed for testing chemical protection clothing. Its range of motion allows it to balance, walk, crawl, and even climb stairs, while also having the ability to simulate human physiology such as sweating. (Source)

It is the first robot to display such human movements, heralding the next ... step in robotics development destined to assist waging war on battlefield earth.

Top 10 Rules for Proper Food Combining

Dylan Charles, Contributor
Activist Post

Food and drink are relied upon to nurture life.  But if one does not know that the natures of substances may be opposed to each other, and one consumes them altogether indiscriminately, the vital organs will be thrown out of harmony and disastrous consequences will soon arise.  – Chia Ming, Essential Knowledge for Eating and Drinking, 1368

Trophology is the science of food combining to allow for optimal digestion, optimal absorption of nutrients and optimal expulsion of waste.  Primarily chemistry, food combining explains how certain foods induce the necessary enzymatic secretions for proper digestion.  When this chemistry is thrown out of balance by demanding that the body process incompatible food combinations, undigested food remains stagnant within the intestinal tract, leading to putrefaction, fermentation, overgrowth of bacteria and toxicity.  This, in turn, leads to myriad illnesses, chronic conditions, food allergies, bloating, metabolic problems and the bulging and distorted body shapes we see everywhere these days.

Every food is different; some are alkaline, others acidic, some are high in fat, others high in fiber.  Because foods are different, paying attention to the basic rules of food combining can give your body the chance it needs to properly use food.

Have you ever left a steak and a tomato on the counter for a week and watched what happens?  They clearly have unique processes of decomposition, and it won’t take long to realize that a rancid steak is not something you want sitting on your counter top, let alone inside your body, for very long.

In order to improve digestion and address certain chronic illnesses, it is advisable to heed these ten powerful food-combining tips as often as possible.

1.  Protein and Starch – The combination of proteins and starch in a single meal is the worst possible food combination there is.  The body begins by producing the alkaline enzyme ptyalin when a starch is chewed.  This begins to break down the starch, but when the food reaches the stomach, this presence of this alkaline enzyme prevents the digestion of proteins in the stomach by pepsin and other acidic stomach secretions.  The meat begins to putrefy within the gut and bacteria attacks the undigested meat.  The result is a heavy bloated feeling, gas, and toxic wastes bleeding into the blood stream.

The Rule - Separate concentrated proteins like meat, fish and eggs, from starches like bread, potatoes and rice.

2.  Protein and Protein – Different proteins require different processes to digest.  For example, when meat is consumed, the strongest enzymatic reaction occurs during the first hour, whereas milk or eggs take longer to be digested.  Combining similar meats, like lamb and beef, is typically fine, but complex combinations should be avoided.

The Rule - Avoid meals that combine multiple concentrated proteins, such as fish and cheese, meat and milk, or meat and eggs.

3.  Starch and Acid – When an acidic food is taken with a starch, the secretion of ptyalin in the mouth is disturbed, and the alkaline enzyme needed to break down the starch is absent when the food reaches the stomach.  Oranges, lemons, acidic fruits, and vinegars interrupt the body’s ability to digest starches and they begin to ferment within the gut.

The Rule – Separate starches and acids at mealtime, avoiding combinations like cereal and orange juice, or rice with a vinegar dish.

4.  Protein and Acid – Proteins require acids present in the stomach to digest properly, but adding additional acidic foods disrupts the stomach’s ability to produce the acids that breaks down protein.  Consuming acidic fruits with meats, for example, slows the body’s ability to break down meat, leading to putrefaction.

The Rule – Avoid meals that combine concentrated proteins and acidic dishes.

5.  Protein and Fat – Fats inhibit the stomach’s ability to produce gastric juices, greatly slowing the digestion of any foods take with the fatty food, especially so for proteins.

The Rule – Separate concentrated proteins and fatty foods when possible.

6.  Protein and Sugar – Sugar also prohibits the stomach’s ability to produce gastric juices and so it passes through the stomach to be processed in the small intestine.  When combined with a concentrated protein, sugar inhibits the digestion of the protein, then is itself prevented from reaching the small intestine as it is combined in the stomach with undigested proteins.  This causes fermentation in the gut and an explosion of bacteria, which are both highly toxic to the body.

The Rule – Combining proteins and sugars together in the same meal should be avoided.

7.  Starch and Sugar – When sugar and starches are combined in the mouth, the secretion of ptyalin, the alkaline enzyme required for digestion of starches, is halted and starches remain undigested.  Sugar fermentation in the gut creates acidic compounds that further inhibit the digestion of starches.

The Rule – Eat sugars and starches separately.

8.  Melons – Melons are a unique food in that they are not digested within the stomach, but pass instead to the small intestine for digestion.  This process is only possible when melons are consumed alone or combined only with fresh, raw foods.  If melon is prevented from passing quickly to the small intestine then rapid fermentation of this soft fruit occurs, creating many problems.

The Rule – Consume melons alone or not at all.

9.  Milk – Many people feel that milk should be avoided entirely, but that if consumed it is best in raw form, as pasteurization destroys the natural enzymes in the milk that make its digestion possible.  Milk immediately curdles when it reaches the stomach, which coagulates with other foods if the belly is busy trying to digest anything else.  This prevents other foods from being exposed to gastric juices and encourages the onset of putrefaction.

The Rule – Raw milk is to be taken by itself, or not at all.

10.  Desserts – Sweets after a big meal can interrupt the digestion of almost anything else in the stomach, especially so with carbohydrates and proteins.  Once a sweet is introduced, digestion all but stops and putrefaction begins.

The Rule – Sweet, starchy desserts, as well a sweet fruits should not be consumed within a few of hours after large meals containing carbohydrates or concentrated proteins.

To be sure, this is an impossible list of rules to follow at all times, but by being mindful of these food combinations and attempting to eat in accordance with these guidelines, the body’s digestion will naturally improve.  At each mealtime, attempting to follow at least one or two of these rules, while choosing healthier foods overall, will leave you instantly feeling lighter, more nourished and healthier, while improving your metabolism and addressing chronic illness.

Ron Paul says he'd protect Bradley Manning and other whistleblowers

As Bradley Manning awaits his next appearance in court, the pool of presidential candidates have been slow to comment on the prosecution against the US Army private accused of providing government secrets to WikiLeaks. Except for Ron Paul, that is.
President Barack Obama called Manning “guilty” even before he was brought to trial for his alleged role with WikiLeaks, but GOP presidential hopeful Texas Congressman Ron Paul told supporters last week that he thinks it isn’t quite as simple as that.
Addressing supporters in San Antonio, Texas last week, Congressman Paul weighed in on the whistleblower’s role in bringing light to governmental scandal.
At a campaign stop luncheon on Thursday, 36-year-old local Jonathan Streeter quizzed Rep. Paul for his take on the Manning incident:
“I believe that open and transparent government is an important part in a government being accountable to the people, and indeed Obama made this same sort of promises and has obviously failed on that; The most visible example is Bradley manning and the WikiLeaks issue,” explained Streeter. “In your administration, what would you do to safeguard government transparency and specifically what would you do about Bradley Manning?”
Before divulging an in-depth explanation, Congressman Paul was quick to cut to the chase.
“I’d have him protected under the whistleblowers act,” explained the presidential hopeful.

“I think this issue is a very important issue because I maintain that government becomes more secret and the people’s privacy is being destroyed. We should protect the people’s privacy and we should make the government much more open,” said Paul. “We can start with the Federal Reserve system.”
Although President Obama campaigned on a platform of increased government transparency, the US government is currently in the process of taking PFC Bradley Manning to trial over his alleged contributions to Julian Assange’s WikiLeaks site. Accused of handing over top-secret military files, including the now infamous “Collateral Murder” video that shows US troops firing at civilians, Manning is being charged with aiding the enemy. Ron Paul argues that even if Manning did provide that footage for WikiLeaks, no one was impacted to the degree that the prosecution insists.
“I imagine people ought to think it through, but from what I can do see from my viewpoint, is that his motivation had nothing to do with helping the enemy,” he said. According to the military prosecution, the video aided al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula’s battle against US troops fighting overseas.
“You know that if anybody had ever suffered a consequence because of the release of those thousands and thousands of pages, we would have heard about it by now,” added Paul.
Before Manning was recommended for court-martial, his attorney David Coombs told authorities that White House officials described the leaked documents that landed Manning in prison as of a “rather benign nature” and as not “of any real damage to national security." In their own report last year, Wired explained that the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) “concluded that all of the information allegedly leaked was dated, represented low-level opinions or was already commonly known due to previous public disclosures."
“Whistleblowers should be protected if they are telling the truth and they are not doing it for the purpose of being a traitor,” added the congressman. Bringing it into a historical prospective, Rep. Paul reminded the San Antonio crowd of Daniel Ellsberg, the former US Department of Defense employee that released what became known as the Pentagon Papers. By exposing the truth behind the government’s handling of the Vietnam War, Ellsberg is today often credited with helping end America’s involvement overseas in the early 1970's. At the time however, Paul said, others weren’t as understanding.
“Daniel Ellsberg in the 60's, the early 70's I guess, was a traitor as far as the people were concerned,” said the congressman. “For me, he’s really a hero in the sense that we have good history now about Vietnam. Too bad we haven’t learned about what was going on, but his own remorse about this wasn’t that he did it. Ellsberg’s remorse was: why didn’t I do it sooner?”
When RT caught up with Ellsberg during Manning’s pre-trial hearing, he described Manning as a personal “hero” of his.
According to evidence submitted by the prosecution during a pre-trial hearing with Manning, the serviceman submitted evidence to an informant and insisted, "I was the source of the 12 July 07 video from the Apache Weapons Team which killed the two journalists and injured two kids.”
"This is possibly one of the more significant documents of our time, removing the fog of war and revealing the true nature of 21st century asymmetric warfare. Have a good day,” is how the court claims Manning described the video.
If that is the case, Ron Paul seems to be in Manning’s favor. “I would certainly lean in the direction of protecting people that are trying to tell the truth,” said the congressman. “The more openness the better. That’s what a free society is all about. It wouldn’t be so critical if the government was a lot smaller, but because it is so big it is big issue because there is so much that could be hidden.”
Manning was arraigned on charges relating to his alleged involvement with WikiLeaks in February, nearly two years after being first detained by US officials. When prompted to offer a plea, Manning deferred doing so. Since then, his attorney has asked that the US government dismiss charges against Manning, citing mishandling on the part of the prosecution.

any change to the Message which says clearly that we must not use any
drug except for medical purposes. The same applies to the freedom of
expression which must be absolute. That does not mean again of course
that I agree with anti-Jews, antisemites, racists of any kind or
anti-Raelians. But by knowing your enemies or the enemies of your
values, you are better equipped to fight them. With love and respect
of course, and with the wonderful sentence of the French philosopher
Voltaire in mind: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to
the death your right to say it".
